Public Speaking

Speaking in public has always been a fear of mine, yet as I serve as President for The Alliance I find that I need to speak in public a great deal. This does bad things to my stomach on a regular basis right up until I am done speaking.

Well folks it is going to happen again. In case you do not know I am speaking at UUCF on Feb. 5, 2012

The subject matter is “Why Fayetteville needs The Alliance”

I am sure you are asking, “Well Storm, why does Fayetteville need The Alliance?” Well come find out when I speak on Sunday.

Look at these links to get information about where I will be.

For those of you who are not able to come to the service to hear me speak, I will be posting my speech here.

And if anyone feels a disturbance in the force, don’t worry, it is just my stomach rumbling with fear.

Busy Busy Busy

I have been so busy lately that sometimes it is hard to remember to keep up with the different social sites we are located on. The Alliance has been doing a lot of fundraising the past month or so. We have had a Jewelry part, a Christmas Festival we participated in and we have so much more coming up.

On our website www.thealliancenc.net you can find advertising pages to the different vendors we have had that have graciously had fundraising parties with us. For instance Beryl Jernigan of Scentsy (as well as our treasurer), Becky Webster who makes some awesome beautiful pieces for necklaces, Angel Roberts who makes hand beaded jewelry and Tonia Macumber who sculpts focal pieces for jewelry.

Soon we are having Scarlet Tipton come do a fundraiser for us where she will show off her skills and her body products. Trust me people, you won’t want to miss this. For a preview of her skills go to the Meetup page http://www.meetup.com/The-Alliance-NC/ to see the date she will be donating her time at the Bisexual/ Queer Task Force event “Pamper Me”.

Each one of our Task Force groups have been busy having their meetings. For those that do not know we have the Bisexual/Queer Taskforce (do not need to identify as Bi to be a part of it) they have been very busy in the first meeting deciding on some good things they want to do with their group. One being raising funds so that they can support not only the umbrella of The Alliance, but also raise money for their group to tackle important issues to them. They also as I said before, have some awesome ideas for social activities starting with the Pamper Me party.

The Lesbian Taskforce started with a bang and went over their ideas for some of the social events they want to accomplish as well. Look on Meetup to find their first social event which is a Movie Night.

The Straight Allies taskforce has made a Friends and Family meeting and so far they are deciding the type of things they will like to have to benefit their group. Again go to meetup to see when they will be meeting next.

The Gay Men’s Taskforce has schedule their first meeting in January. I am sure it will be a hoot with Beryl and BZ hosting it.

The Transgender Taskforce is getting together slowly. Their first meeting will be held hopefully in January. What a great way to start the new year.

We have these task force groups so that 1. We can meet under regular Alliance social events as a whole, strong and ready, yet 2. Be able to have specific groups that deal with our particular issues in this community. I do hope they help everyone who comes to the Alliance for help.

This last board meeting we implemented two more groups. One is a youth group and the other is a faith neutral group. Let me explain them. The youth group will be for our young people in the community who are either glbt or friends and family of such. The Faith neutral group is an opportunity for The Alliance to be able to receive funds from different organizations whether it be Atheist, Humanist, Jewish, Christian or anything that is positive and wishes to support us. This group is NOT a religious group in anyway. It is a chance to refer members to different organizations of religion if they need, and a way to help generate revenue from organizations that would like to give us grants.

I am looking forward to seeing the groups grow and bring membership into The Alliance so that we can work towards our goals.

I look forward to suggestions from our readers.

Yours,

Storm Silvermane

President of The Alliance.

Find us in other places as well

Hello everyone,

I am so glad you stopped in to see us. We are just learning this tool to show everyone who we are and what we do, so please be patient. Let me tell you a little bit about us. Four of us got together, socializing and discussing how little help there is for the GLBT community in this area. We talked about how great it would be to have a local center here for just this purpose. Well why just talk about it right?

So the four of us decided we would put out feelers for people who would like to join us and the Alliance was created.

Our purpose is to provide education, support and advocacy for citizens of the Sandhills area and beyond who are a part of and allies with the GLBT community.

We have some great visions and if you would like to know more about them you can take a look at our website at www.thealliancenc.net
